After a four-year hiatus, the Malaysian Open golf championship will return to the Asian Tour in 2024. The Malaysian Open 2024 Asian Tour will begin from February 15–18, 2024, at the Kota Permai Golf and Country Club in Shah Alam. The tournament features a 144-man field, and the total prize money will be US$1 million (RM4.63 million), the same as the previous edition, which was played in 2020. The American Trevor Simsby has won the event after defeating Andrew Dodt and Jarin Todd in a three-way playoff in 2020.

Before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the Malaysian Open was one of only four tournaments that were finished in the first quarter. The Malaysian Open is the 2nd major golf event after the Maybank LPGA Championship. 

The Malaysian Open was first held in 1962, and although it has a long history, the years 1999–2015 stand out in particular since that is when the European Tour also sanctioned the event. This event has been won by many big players, such as former world No. 1s Lee Westwood, Vijay Singh, and Louis Oosthuizen.

The late P. Gunasegaran achieved the best-ever result by a Malaysian, finishing second at the Royal Selangor Golf Club in 1994.
