A PGA Tour event, the Genesis Invitational, formerly known as the Los Angeles Open, is played by professional golfers. In 1926, the tournament was first played, and since then, it has been held at several golf facilities in California for many years. However, the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles, became its permanent residence in 1973.
Tiger Woods made his professional debut at Riviera Country Club when he was 16 years old. The golf star sponsors the Genesis Invitational right now, and all of the money goes to his charity, the TGR Foundation.
The Genesis Invitational is one of only five "invitational" PGA Tour tournaments. It has a field of 120 golfers instead of the usual 156, and it offers a $20 million prize to bring in the best players.
In 2022, Joaquin Niemann defeated Collin Morikawa and Cameron Young by two strokes with a total of 19 under. This was the lowest winning score since Lanny Wadkins shot 20 under par in 1985.
